July 2--  An elderly Vidalia man was injured when his motorized scooter collided with a garbage truck.

Vidalia Police Sergeant Kim Williamson says 77-year-old Paul Cunningham suffered serious injuries in the accident which occurred in front of the disabled man's home at 1510 Clydette Boulevard Tuesday morning.

A witness told police Cunningham came out of his driveway on his scooter and pulled in front of the truck to avoid an oncoming vehicle.  Police say the driver was just starting to pull away from the curb and never saw Cunningham.

According to police, he was taken to a hospital in Savannah and later had one of his legs amputated.

Sergeant Williamson says no charges have been filed in the case.
