Sunday at Carnegie Hall

June 22--  Sunday is a big day for the chorus at Brewton Parker College.  It's performing at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

Choral director Dr. Sonya Sepulveda has perfomed there before and says it's a career highlight for a musician.  "If you think about the Hall itself and think about all the people who've performed there and all the history, it's very epic to stand there.  It's kind of an award that you don't expect to always get in life," she says.

The BPC choir is presenting a concert of its own Sunday at one and at two p.m. will be joined by other groups to perform with London-born composer-conductor John Rutter.

Members of the choir have been working for months to pay for the trip and Christina Trowell of Waycross can't wait.  "At first I was kind of shocked because this is a major opportunity for us.  Never would I have thought I'd get to perform at Carnegie Hall.  I'm excited and scared about it at the same time," she says.

The choir will perform Rutter's "Requiem" which he wrote following the death of his father.  "You can't go back and perform under Bach or Mozart, but John Rutter is one of the big names right now and if you have the opportunity to perform under someone like this, take it," Trowell says.
