Hero Coming to Air Show

April 21--  An Iraqi war hero is among the soldiers who will be at this year's Vidalia Onion Festival air show.

ImageSergeant First Class John Adams won a bronze star for valor when he and his soldiers took out three terrorists who were trying to ambush a convoy.  He credits his Army training for his actions.

"Whenever the situation I was in came up, it was just second nature to me, and my guys were the same way.  They knew exactly what to do, nobody went crazy or anything like that and we got the job done.  That's what's expected," he says.

Sergeant Adams will be meeting people who stop by the Virtual Army Experience in the giant inflatable hangar this weekend at Vidalia Regional Airport.

"It has a Blackhawk and two Humvees inside of it with video screens and it's amazing.  People go in, get an ID card and a mission briefing and then they move down and actually conduct a mission." he reports.

A veteran of 17 years, SFC Adams says his proudest moments have come leading soldiers.  "Helping these soldiers along the way, teaching them, training them, and seeing their confidence and self-esteem goes through the roof.  They become proud and when they go home they do the right thing," he says.
