I Tell Ya, Vidalia

May 5-- Vidalia has a catchy theme song thanks to a songwriter who graduated from Vidalia High School and who's mother, Dallas Jones, is a Vidalia resident.

Mia Rebel now lives in New York and spends much of her time writing music for movies.  Her Mom remembers how the song, "I Tell Ya, Vidalia," came to be.  "A couple of years ago I was talking with her and I said, 'You know what, Vidalia doesn't have a song and you should make a song about Vidalia and tell what Vidalia has because Vidalia has a lot to offer, and she went for, she did it.', she says.

On a visit to Vidalia last week, Mia and her Mom presented a copy of the song to Paula Toole with the Downtown Vidalia Association.

"Her mother Dallas is an associate of Downtown, she's with the American Legion and I've known her for years.  Dallas mentioned that Mia was doing a song about Vidalia and that when she came home that she would bring her into the office and bring a copy of the song.  I'd not met Mia before but she is a dynamic young lady and I thought the song was so cute that I wanted to share it with the community," Toole reports.

Mia hopes the song will attract people to Vidalia, a place where she chose to spend her senior year in high school.  "My Mom was in the Air Force and we lived at various Air Force bases, but my last year of high school my Mom asked me where I wanted to graduate from high school.  I told her I wanted to go home with my Grandma, Pearlie Mae, and graduate from high school there.  She sent me there to graduate high school and I'm glad she did.  I really needed that moment to really appreciate life and being there helped me to do that," Mia remembers.
