March 26--  There's a new system of emergency notification coming on line for residents of Toombs County.

Toombs County Emergency Management Agency director Lynn Moore says residents who sign up will be notified by telephone in event of emergencies and bad weather.

"This system is a reverse 911 or Code Red, and if we have an emergency in Toombs County, this system will actually call you to let you know what the emergency is," Moore says.

You can sign up for the free service by logging on www.southeastgeorgiatoday.com and click on "Code Red" and also the web pages of the Toombs County Commission (site under construction), Toombs County Sheriff's office (www.toombscosheriffoffice.com) and the Toombs-Montgomery Chamber of Commerce (toombsmontgomerychamber.com).   If you don't have a computer, call the EMA office in Lyons at 526-6424.

Moore says the system is being furnished to Toombs County by the Southern Company as part of its alert system for Plant Hatch.  A Florida contractor is providing high speed telephone technology which can deliver 60,000 emergency notifications per hour.   Toombs County residents can provide up to seven phone numbers where they can be contacted.
