Ga Law Would Preserve Choice
Monday, 22 March 2010

March 22--Georgia State Sen. Judson Hill (R-Marietta) released the following statement today regarding the U.S. House of Representative’s decision to pass national health care:

“Sunday will go down as one of the biggest policy failures in our nation’s history. America was founded on individual freedom and liberty. With Sunday's vote, those principles were clearly abandoned by the President and Democrat-led Congress in Washington. Sunday's actions don’t solve any of the problems they promised to fix and it won’t improve health care. The Democrat’s plan is estimated to cost Georgia taxpayers almost $500 million per year.

We know that the right to make your own health care choices is important to Georgians. Last week the Georgia Senate passed my bill which prevents the government from mandating participation in private or government health plans. Senate Bill 317 guarantees all Georgians the right to purchase private health insurance or join a government plan, but people can also exercise their right not to participate in any health care program without being fined.
These basic freedoms have always been worth protecting, but especially now in light of Congress' vote to take away these rights.”
