Friday, 19 March 2010

March 19--  A Lyons grocery store was damaged in a fire Thursday night.

Lyons Fire Chief Daryl Corley says his department and the East Toombs Fire Department responded to the call to the Sav-A-Lot food store about 11:30 Thursday night.  Fireman found the store full of smoke and spotted flames in the back of the building.

Chief Corley says a 60-by-60 foot portion of the roof fell in and there was heavy smoke damage.  He says a state Fire Marshall believes the fire started with an electrical short in a wall next to the produce department.

Firemen worked at the site till 4:30 Friday morning and Chief Corley thanked the local Red Cross for responding with water and drinks for the firemen.
