Galbreath Denied Early Release
Tuesday, 09 March 2010

March 9--  A former Toombs County clerk has had her request for early release from prison denied.

ImageBrenda Galbreath's motion was denied last Friday by Superior Court Judge Bobby Reeves.  She is serving up to 730 days (two years) in the state probation detention center in Blakley, Georgia and was ordered to make restitution of the $15,300 she stole from the county when she was employed as the payroll clerk in the county commission office.

Judge Reeves noted Galbreath has been a model prisoner but said reducing her sentence might send the wrong message to others who work with public funds.

Galbreath's attorney Mackey Bryant says his client could now be eligible for release as early as August 15.
