Vidalia Homicide Arrests

February 26--  Vidalia police are charging two people in connectioin with a fatal shooting Thursday night on a city street.

Police Lieutenant Tony Phillips says Toombs County 911 got a call about 9:45 p.m. Thursday from an individual who said he had been shot.  An ambulance and police were dispatched to Cadillac Drive where 22-year-old Christopher Dustin Cartrette was found on the ground by his car. Police say he had been shot in the chest and died before he reached the hospital.  The crime scene is about a mile from Cartrette's home in a mobile home park on Orange Street.

Late Friday afternoon Vidalia Police Chief Frank Waits announced the arrest of two men in the killing.  He identified the pair as 21-year-old Benjamin Johnson of 106 Sedie Page Road and 22-year-old Brian Stastny of 1540 Lyons-Center Road.

Chief Waits says they are both facing murder charges and that a handgun used in the shooting has been recovered.
