Barrow "Uncertainty a Problem"
Saturday, 20 February 2010

February 20--  Uncertainty about evolving healthcare, energy and fiscal policies of the Obama administration is hurting the country's economic recovery according to Georgia Congressman John Barrow.

He also blames Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation regulators for strangling lending institutions.  "The main thing that is different about this recession is the extent to which credit and finance is frozen.  Regulators have contributed to this by over-reacting just as they under-reacted to the lead-up to this mess.  Somewhere we've got to find the right balance," he said.

Barrow was the keynote speaker at the Vidalia Citizen of the Year dinner and said he's been visiting the last few days with businesses and industries in the district. "There are a lot of businesses which are struggling, but they all have this in common, they are determined to ride this out.  I think clearly things are looking up for the system, but they are not looking up for the people yet.  We've reached the end of the beginning, but we still have a long way to go before everyone who needs a job has a job," he believes.
