September 3--  New student registration at Toombs Central 

Elementary School continues today with parents and students

invited to meet teachers at the school this afternoon from one till 3

p.m.


September 3--  Toombs County High School is holding "Open

House," for 9th graders Friday, September 3rd.  Parents and

incoming freshmen are invited to stop by the school from one till

three p.m.


September 3--  A mobile food pantry from America's Second

Harvest passes out free food for low income, elderly, disabled

and unemployed people Friday from eleven till one at 

Solomon Tabernacle Church at 902 Thompson Street in

Vidalia.


September 4--  There's a screening of the "Grateful Dead's Closing

of Winterland Concert" Saturday at seven at the Pal Theater in

downtown Vidalia to benefit the Sweet Onion Animal Protection

Society.  Tickets are fifteen dollars.


September 7--  The Toombs County Rec Department holds

sign-up for football and cheerleading Tuesday, Sepember 7th thru

Friday, September 10th from five till 6:30 each day at the Toombs

September 8--  The Student Government Association at

Brewton Parker invites students to register to vote in the November

election.  A voter registration table will be set up in the Phillips

Student Center Wednesday, September 8th.


September 9--  The Lady Barons Basketball Team is sponsoring

a Red Cross Bloodmobile Thursday, September 9th from 1:30 till

6:30 p.m. at the Phillips Student Center on campus.  The goal

is 20 units of blood.


September 10--  This year's "9/11 Rememberance Ceremony" in

downtown Vidalia is Friday morning, September 10th at nine a.m.

in Meadows Street Park.  Members of the Downtown Vidalia 

Association and local Girl Scouts invite you to attend.  The speaker

will be Dr. Curtis Beard.


September 11--  Students from Southeastern Tech will be

bagging groceries at Harvey's in Vidalia Saturday, September 11th

to collect tips and comfort items to benefit U.S. military members

now serving in Afghanistan.


September 11--  Kids ages eight to 17 can enjoy a free airplane

ride at the Vidalia Sweet Onion Aviators' Fly-In Saturday,

September 11th from ten till noon at Vidalia Regional Airport.

September 11--  Vidalia High School tennis teams invite runners

and walkers to take part in a one mile and 5K run and walk

Saturday, September 11th at Creek Shoals Estate on Harden

Chapel Road near Lyons.  To register, call Terri Humphrey,

September 11--  If you have Fibromyalgia or Chronic Fatigue

Syndrome, a new support group for you and your family

members is Saturday, September 11th at one p.m. at the

Meadows Wellness Center.  For info, call 537-8229.


September 13--  The September meeting of the Vidalia city council

has been changed from Monday, September 13th to Monday,

September 20th at six p.m. at city hall.


September 14--  Seniors and their parents at Toombs County

High School are invited to Senior-Parent Night Tuesday, September

14th at six in the school cafeteria.  Senior year requirements and

September 25--  The annual Plant Hatch United Way Golf 

Tournament is Saturday, September 25th at Rocky Creek

Golf Course in Vidalia.  The cost is 85-dollars per golfer.

September 30--  The town of Alston observess its 100th birthday

November 20th with a downtown celebration.  Arts, crafts and

food vendors as well as entertainers are needed.  If interested,

August 30--  Collectors of arrowheads and other native American

artifacts are invited to display their collections at the October 9th

"Real Squeal Barbecue" at Partin Park in Lyons.  For info, contact

October 8 & 9--  Barbeque cooks are being invited to sign up for

The Real Squeal: Lyons Barbeque and Bluegrass Festival in Lyons

Friday and Saturday, October 8th and 9th.  Fifteen-thousand

dollars in prize money will be awarded in the professional

October 2--  Meadows Regional Medical Center invites you

to take part in the "Memory Walk for Alzheimers" Saturday,

October 2nd at ten a.m. at Bulloch Academy in Statesboro.

October 2--  Southeast Georgia Firefighters invite you to

their "Challenge Cook-Off" Saturday, October 2nd at ten a.m.

at the Higgston Baptist Church Recreation Complex.  To enter

October 7--  The Vidalia Masonic Lodge is selling BBQ Pork 

Plates Thursday, October 7th from eleven till one at the Lodge

on Slayton Street.  Buy five plates or more and get free delivery

in Lyons and Vidalia.  Cost is six dollars per plate.  Place

advance orders by calling 537-8885.


October 25--  The annual Toombs-Montgomery Chamber of

Commerce Golf Tournament is being held this year on Thursday,

October 21st at Hawk's Point Golf Club in Vidalia.  For entry
