Tourism Trends "Positive"
Monday, 18 January 2010

January 18--  Motel and Hotel taxes collected in Vidalia in 2009 continued to trend upward and that's reason for optimism according to Elizabeth Harvill of the Vidalia Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.

"We really had a good year in 2009.  Even though we lost some of our local funding, we were able to secure some grant funding from the Georgia Department of Economic Development.  As a result, we were able to update our visitor's guide and we created a brand new weekend get-away package so visitors will know exactly what they are getting," she said.

At the bureau's annual meeting, Harvill reported they're continuing to tap into state grant money to stimulate travel in the area in the new year.  "We're creating a meeting facilities guide spotlighting facilities in Partin Park and the new Vidalia community center.  Also we're rebranding our agri-tourism guide to put a new face on that," she says.
