Home Invasion Shooting
Thursday, 31 December 2009

December 31--  A Lyons man was hurt Wednesday night when he and another man were involved in an alleged home invasion in Mount Vernon.

Mount Vernon Police Chief B.L. Horn says 30-year-old Alex Ashley was later taken to a Savannah hospital.

"There was a home invasion.  Looks like Ashley and at least one other guy, don't know his name yet, had gone in a house on Lane Street owned by Roy Lee Bell, Jr. who is known as "Worm" around the area.  When Worm got home from the ballgame last night, Ashley and the other guy were in his house.  Worm fought him off and tells us he took a gun from Alex and shot him," the Chief reports.

Mount Vernon police officer Calvin Burns says Ashley suffered a gunshot wound in the arm and also some head injuries.

He was out of jail on bond after being arrested in August in a federal drug case.
