December 31 - President Barack Obama's job performance rating has slipped to 47% in the latest Zogby Interactive survey, from 48% earlier in December.

The Zogby Interactive survey of 2,789 likely voters nationwide found 47% approving of Obama's job performance, 53% disapproving and 1% not sure. The survey was conducted Dec. 28-30, 2009, and carries a margin of error of +/- 1.9 percentage points.

The table below shows Obama's job approval on Zogby Interactive polls since July 24.

Overall, do you approve or disapprove (participants have the option of selecting strongly approve, somewhat approve, somewhat disapprove, strongly disapprove, or not sure) of Barack Obama's job as president?

This latest survey shows a drop in Obama's job approval ratings among First Globals TM, those young voters age 18-30, and political independents. Support among Democrats and liberal likely voters remains steady. The table below compares Obama's approval among some of these groups on Aug. 31 - when Obama experienced his most significant dip in recent Zogby Interactive polling -- and the five most recent job approval surveys.

Overwhelming majorities of both Republicans (88%) and conservatives (93%) continue to say they disapprove of Obama's job performance. In this latest survey, just 12% of Republicans and 6% of conservatives indicated they somewhat or strongly approve of Obama's performance.

The poll also found that:

  • Overall, 50% of likely voters now view Obama favorably, compared to 49% in our early December survey. While 30% have a "very favorable" view of Obama, 39% have a "very unfavorable" view of the President.
  • 37% of likely voters say the nation is headed in the right direction, while 54% say it is off on the wrong track.

This interactive survey, conducted by Zogby International, has a sample size of 2,789 likely voters nationwide. A sampling of Zogby International's online panel, which is representative of the adult population of the US, was invited to participate.   Slight weights were added to region, party, age, race, religion, gender, education to more accurately reflect the population. The margin of error is +/- 1.9 percentage points. Margins of error are higher in sub-groups.
