Vidalia Youth Dies in Baxley Shooting
Tuesday, 29 December 2009

December 29--  A Vidalia teenager died of a gunshot wound he received early Saturday at a nightclub in Baxley.  Two others were injured.

According to Baxley Police Chief James Godfrey, 19-year-old Christopher Yarborough of Vidalia was in a crowd at Club Peppers when a disturbance occurred and a person or persons unknown pulled a firearm and started shooting.

Yarborough was hit in the chest and died later at Appling Health Care.  Twenty-year-old Cezar Adams of Vidalia  and 17-year-old Denzel Adkins of Vidalia were hit and transported to a hospital in Savannah. They are reported in satisfactory condition, according to police.

Chief Godfrey says no arrests have been made in the case and his department and the Appling County Sheriff's Office are assisting the GBI with the investigation.   He believes the shootings may be gang-related and is in contact with police in Vidalia and Lyons as part of the investigation.

He says the Baxley city council acted on his recommendation and closed the nightclub at its meeting Monday night.
