Thursday, 17 December 2009

December 17--  Vidalia police have made an arrest in connection with a traffic death.

Detective Sergeant Tony Phillips says 35-year-old Christopher Patrick Johnson of Vidalia is charged with vehicular homicide in the Friday night death of 55-year-old Michael Crooms of Vidalia.

According to police, Johnson ran a stop sign at the corner of McIntosh and Jenkins Street and was hit by an oncoming vehicle.  The impact knocked Johnson's car into Crooms who was walking on the roadside.  Crooms died Sunday at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah.

Phillips says Johnson drove a block to Morris Street where his car quit running and he fled on foot.  He turned himself into police Tuesday.  Police say Johnson was driving with a suspended license and is also being charged with leaving the scene of an accident.
