Toombs BOE Members Give Back
Wednesday, 16 December 2009

December 16-- Because of the poor economy and cuts levied on schools this year, members of the Toombs County School Board are giving up part of their salaries.  Board Vice-Chairman Duane Tomlin reports board members have been giving up 25% of their monthly pay since August.  Board members make $200 a month and the chairman draws $300 monthly.  The savings this year amounted to $4,500.

According to Tomlin, that amount could double if the school system adds additional furlough days next year.  He also says the board and superintendent passed up the annual school board association meeting in Atlanta this year for a savings of $8,000.
