Lt Gov Cagle Visits Tuna Plant

November 23--  Georgia's Lieutenant Governor was in Toombs County last week.  Before attending a Lyons fund-raiser for his re-election campaign, Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle made a courtesy call on the new Chicken of the Sea plant north of Lyons.

LtGov Cagle is greeted at the Chicken of the Sea plant by John DeBeer, the company's vice-president for operations.

The state provided $1 million to build a 10,000 square foot freezer for the plant which now has 160 employees and is planning on more than 200 next year.  The Lieutenant Governor says the state incentive was only part of the package.

"This company had a lot of choices and they chose us.  We are a union-free state, quick start training for employees, low energy costs and access to the port.  All of these things create a synergy that I think speaks well for Toombs County and this entire region," he said.

Meanwhile, when the state legislature reconvenes next year, Lieutenant Governor Cagle promises to do all he can to help with state funding for education.

"Education has to be our number one priority and we'll try to mitigate cuts as much as we possibly can.  We have no desire whatsoever to try to harm local school systems," he said.
