Police Urge Awareness
Tuesday, 17 November 2009

November 17--  Vidalia police are urging residents to be aware of what's going on in their neighborhoods.  A couple of crimes in residential areas point up the need to be on the alert, according to police.

Last week two teenagers and three juveniles attempted an armed robbery in broad daylight at the home of Vidalia city councilmember Eddie Tyson on Barron Street.  Officers say Tyson's wife called neighbors who called police.

Sergeant Tony Phillips says the five were apprehended near the scene of the attempted crime with Halloween masks and an air rifle.  He reports 17-year-old Stephen Carouthers of Lyons and 19-year-old Ericka Sparrow of Vidalia are charged with criminal intent to commit armed robbery and entering an auto.

Officers are still looking for whomever entered a 2004 Ford Explorer parked in the driveway at a home on Green Acres Drive.  They say $220 in cash and some items were taken from the vehicle whcich had been left unlocked.
