Ag Agents Honor Local Media

November 17--  Two local radio stations and one newspaper are statewide award winners this year from the Georgia Association of County Agricultural Agents.

Montgomery County Agricultural Agent Shane Curry nominated Vidalia Communications Corporation and the Montgomery Monitor newspaper for the association's annual mass media awards.

Curry presents the state media award to Marvin McIntyre of Vidalia Communications Corporation at the annual GACAA conference held this year in Savannah.

Shane Curry stated, “The cooperation we have with Vidalia Communications allows us to reach a large audience conveniently, easily, and effectively. Without the help from Vidalia Communications there is no doubt that our programming would suffer greatly. I look forward to every Friday when I record my weekly radio spot. Not only do I get to share news about agriculture with thousands of people listening, I get to spend time with friends and the wonderful employees at Vidalia Communications. The two stations which broadcast Curry's daily reports each morning and noon are WVOP, AM 970 and WYUM-FM, Sweet Onion Country 1017FM.

Curry also stated, “The Montgomery Monitor is very important to our County Extension success. Each week I have a news column which covers a variety of information on farming, lawns, gardening, wildlife, and livestock. This allows me to reach a large audience every week and cover topics that most people are dealing with. The Montgomery Monitor recognizes our 4-H’ers for all their accomplishments, advertises local Extension meetings, 4-H meetings, and state wide Extension events as well. We depend on the Monitor to inform the local people of upcoming Extension events. Without their help and support of Cooperative Extension, more than 2,000 people wouldn’t be informed of Extension events or know what’s going on with 4-H and youth in Montgomery County.”

The Georgia Association of County Agricultural Agents (GACAA) is a professional improvement organization. The membership is comprised of extension agents and specialists working with agriculture. Each year GACAA holds an annual state meeting for all University of Georgia Cooperative Extension agents and specialists.
