Vidalia Names Teacher of Year
Tuesday, 10 November 2009

November 10--  A first grade teacher at J.D. Dickerson Primary School is the Vidalia City School System's Teacher of the Year.

Her principal, Carol Welch, says Patricia Clark sets an outstanding example of what a good teacher should be.  "Mrs. Clark is ready from the start of the day to the end.  She exemplifies early childhood education with her enthusiasm and love of children, and she loves for them to learn," she says.

School Superintendent Dr. Tim Smith (left) announced Mrs. Clark's selection  at Tuesday night's meeting of the Vidalia School Board.  "I am very thrilled and excited.  It's an honor to receive this award for something I love doing and an honor to be able to make a difference in the students' lives," she said.

She spent eight years teaching pre-kindergarten and has been a first grade teacher for the last nine years.  "To me this is just a critical time in sparking that interest to learn, to be eager to come to school, and want to come to school and want to learn.  It's just a time to form their ideas about what learning is all about," she observes.

Other teachers nominated for the award include Sean Sasser (left) at Sally Meadows Elementary, Don Clinton at J.R. Trippe Middle School (not pictured) and Emma Salzer (right) at Vidalia High School.
