Local Voting Tuesday
Monday, 02 November 2009

November 2--  A school bond referendum and municipal races in three area towns are on the ballot in Tuesday elections.

Voters in Montgomery County will decide if they want to extend a one percent local option sales tax to help repay over $10 million dollars in bonds needed to partially finance construction of a new county middle and high school complex in Mount Vernon.  The project could also require a property tax increase.

In city races, the mayor's office is contested in Uvalda between Martin Moses and Paul Bridges.  Three candidates running for Moses' unexpired city council term are David Adams, Emmett Fulford and Clay Warnock.  Four others running for three at-large seats on the Uvalda council are Jeffery Dopson and incumbents Martha Jackson, Austin Morris and Lloyd Moses.

In Lyons, Ward Two councilman Ben Mitchell is challenged by Alfred Cason, and in Soperton District Four councilman Bobby Joe Moxley is opposed by Carvin Coleman and Royce Fowler.

Election results will be broadcast on Vidalia Radio Stations WVOP-WTCQ-WYUM Tuesday night.
