Mercy Medical Clinic Saturday
Thursday, 15 October 2009

October 15--  Free medical clinics for the needy and unemployed in the Toombs County area have been going on for about six months and another is coming up Saturday.

"It's all about offering healthcare in a pre-clinic setting that is nurturing and respectful of all those who are without health insurance and who need care," according to Marj Hamrell, a consultant for "Volunteers in Medicine" who met recently with the board of Mercy Medical Clinic in Vidalia.

She hopes the temporry clinics will grow into a permanent setting, "What they are trying to do is establish a clinic with a building of its own where people can come regularly for care and referrals," she said.

Meanwhile, the Mercy Clinic's Nancy Stanley says she would like to increasse the frequency of the clinics.  "The last clinic we had to turn some folks away so our plan is to have the clinic more than once a month," she reports.

The October clinic is Saturday morning at God's Storehouse on McIntosh Street in Vidalia.
