Life-Plus for Mother-Son Killers
Tuesday, 06 October 2009

October 6--  A Mount Vernon mother and son are facing serious jail time for the murder of the son's former wife.

Sonya and Damon Bamberg have been sentenced to life plus 30 years by Superior Court Judge Amanda Williams.

The two were convicted last month in Jeff Davis County Superior Court for the January killing of Nicky Bamberg.  According to court testimony, the two chased the woman from Uvalda into Jeff Davis County after she had transferred her two children to Damon for a visit under terms of their divorce agreement.

Sonya Bamberg drove the chase car and Damon shot Nicky twice after she pulled off the road just beyond the river bridge between Uvalda and Hazlehurst.  Her children were in the killers' car when their mother was shot.

Officials say the Bambergs can expect to serve up to 60 years for the murder.
