September 28--  The unemployment rate in the nine-county Vidalia trade area improved slightly in August according to the state Labor Department.

 In Toombs County, 93 more people had jobs in August than in July.  However, the county's unemployment rate remained at just over ten percent with 1,411 people on the unemployment rolls.

Jeff Davis County has the highest unemployment rate in the area with 14 percent unemployed.  The lowest is Tattnall County with 8.9 percent.

The unemployment rate in the state was 10.2% in August.
