River Warning
Friday, 25 September 2009

September 25-- The Montgomery County Emergency Management agency has issued a boating advisory for the Oconee and Altamaha Rivers in Montgomery County.  River levels are currently rising and are forecast to reach 15.2 Feet by 8 AM on Tuesday morning.

The water currently coming downstream is the result of extreme flooding in north Georgia and contains pollutants such as raw sewage, petroleum products and flood debris. Activities involving water contact, such as the use of jet skies, are not advised in these waters.

Boaters should exercise caution in these rivers. Watch for swift currents and debris. Personal floatation devices should always be worn when operating watercraft.
