September 15--  The Montgomery County School Board presented awards for heroism to three staff members at Monday night's school board meeting.

School Nurse Priscilla McGhee and faculty members Ashley Powell and Eric McDonald are credited with saving the life of a para-professional who collapsed in the cafeteria at the elementary school.  Principal Randy Rodgers said they applied a defibrilator to restore the woman's heartbeat.

School Superintendent Dr. Lynn Batten reports he's still receiving feedback on proposed staff reductions next year in the school system and is not prepared to make any recommendations to the school board at this time.

He also announced a public meeting is planned to answer questions about plans to build a new middle and high school in Mount Vernon.  Voters are being asked to approve a school bond referendum in a county-wide election Tuesday, November 3rd.  The public meeting is Monday, September 21st at six p.m. in the cafeteria at the middle and high school.
