September 7--  A Vidalia man was injured in a truck-bicycle collision Saturday in Montgomery County.  The following account is provided by Wendy Brannen who was in the group of cyclists on the ride.

Image"Bill Baldree of Vidalia, was hit by a motorist while bicycling 2 miles north of Uvalda on Highway 56 in Montgomery County Saturday morning September 5. Bill was riding with three friends on the shoulder of the road, well inside the white line when he was hit from the rear by a Uvalda man driving a Ford pickup. The driver stated that he was distracted while keying a destination into his GPS which caused him to stray onto the shoulder of the road. He then came in contact with Baldree, flinging him into the ditch. The driver estimated that he was traveling approximately 60 miles per hour and stated “I didn’t even see him”. Baldree was transported to Vidalia Regional Medical Center by emergency personnel and was subsequently airlifted to a hospital in Savannah where he is being treated for injuries. Bill Baldree is employed by Trane Inc. in Vidalia."
