RTCA Leads Area Schools in SAT Scores
Thursday, 03 September 2009

September 4--  A private school in Lyons is leading area high schools in Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) scores.

Robert Toombs Christian Academy Headmaster John Sharpe says RTCA tested 22 of its 23 senior class members and they exceeded the statewide SAT score average for all schools by 200 points.

"We have very involved parents, we have high expections in regards to grades and behavior and we also have outstanding, dedicated teachers who really care about seeing that the students achieve to their fullest potential," Sharpe says.

According to Sharpe, SAT scores are an indicator parents should consider when deciding where their child will go to school.  "We tell parents they need to consider what's best for their child because parents are ultimately the ones who make the decision," he observes.

The statewide SAT score average for all schools is 1460 points while the average for all public schools is 1450.

Only two public high schools in the area, Jeff Davis High School and Wheeler County High School, exceeded the state public school average of 1450.

Toombs County High School has an average SAT score of 1432, Vidalia High School is 1429, Treutlen High School is 1403, Tattnall is 1369 and Montgomery County High School  is 1361.  The lowest score among area high schools is Dublin which tested the most students and had a score of 1275.
