New Leadership Class Starts
Monday, 31 August 2009

August 31--  Local citizens interested in improving their community are off and running in the 16th Leadership Toombs-Montgomery Class.

The 17 class members got a glimpse at what to expect at their day-long orientation last week.

Jeff McCormick, the headmaster at Vidalia Heritage Academy, is excited about the prospects for the class.  "I think we want to be able to come out on the other side with a goal to really help improve our community.  Maybe we as a class can learn enough to really make our own mark herem" he said.

Class member Cindy Williams is a relative newcomer.  "I came here about a year-and-a-half ago with my husband who is a doctor with Meadows Regional Medical Center.  We really love the Vidalia community and I got into this so I can learn how to become involved and really make a difference," she said.

And no stranger to the community is class member Roger Callaway, a Major with the Vidalia Police Department.  "I wanted to learn more about the community and our people and just interact with everybody.  This is the community I call home and I've been working here for the past 25 years and i like interacting with the citizens," Callaway said.

The class will hold classes for the next six months and be exposed to various facets of life in Toombs and Montgomery counties.
