GBI Investigating Lyons Shooting
Friday, 14 August 2009

August 14--  The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating a fatal shooting Thursday night in Lyons.

GBI Agent-in-Charge Greg Harvey says Toombs 911 got a call at 7:25 p.m. to a duplex apartment located at 331-2 on Skyline Boulevard.  He says responding officers found that 21-year-old Joshua O'Connor had been shot once with a .22 caliber rifle.  He was pronounced dead at Meadows Regional Medical Center in Vidalia.

Agent Harvey says officers were told O'Connor and his roomate, 20-year-old Timothy Holbrook, were "playing around with the rifle" when it discharged.  He says a third person was in the apartment at the time, but declined to identify the individual.

The GBI reports an autopsy will be conducted on O'Connor and that the investigation by the GBI and the Lyons Police Department is continuing.
