Noise Ordinance Suit Heading to Court
Wednesday, 15 July 2009
July 15-- Toombs County is going to court to enforce its new Noise Ordinance.

Toombs County Commissioners have authorized County Attorney Howard Kaufold to file a response to a suit filed against the county last month by the owners of the 'Silverado Ballroom' on US Highway 1 north of Lyons. The nightclub has received four citations from local police for violations of the law.
A court hearing originally scheduled for July 2 was delayed to allow time for the attorneys to negotiate. The talks never happened, so the county is going to court. In addition, the county will enter a counter claim asking the court to declare the business a public nuisance.

County ManagerDoug Eaves says the county will take whatever measures necessary to ensure the safety of its citizens.
"The county is going to explore all options, legally, to ensure that we protect the peace and tranquility of our citizens, that neighborhoods are taken care of, and that we're going to take whatever actions necessary to protect their interests," says Eaves.
The county has a petition from more than 20 residents in and around the bar complaining about loud music.
