Tax Refund Update

June 27–Revenue Commissioner Bart L. Graham today issued the latest 2009 tax refund processing schedule for Georgia taxpayers who await their state tax refund.    

The Department this week mailed 30,000 tax refunds. With minor exceptions, all electronic refunds are being processed timely.

“The Department’s stated commitment is to get Georgians their income tax refunds as quickly as possible,” Commissioner Graham said. “As of today, we have issued 2.67 million income tax refunds compared to 2.99 million as of the same date a year ago.”

Following is an updated processing schedule: 

CURRENT PROCESSING TIMES FOR PAPER REFUND RETURNS:

 ·                    Paper returns received by the Department prior to April 10, 2009 will complete processing within 10-14 weeks.

 ·                    Paper returns received after April 10, 2009 will complete processing within 14-20 weeks.

CURRENT DATES FOR PAPER REFUND RETURNS:

·                    Currently working paper returns received between March 26th–April 3rd

 ·                    Refund checks for these returns will be mailed between June 30th–July 8th

REMAINING BACKLOG (as of June 26, 2009)

 ·              Approximately 405,000 paper refund returns.

[Note: Included in this total are 12,000 additional paper returns received this week.]
