Business at June County Commissioners Meeting

June 10--  The elections of November 2010 will have a new overseer in Toombs County. At their June meeting Tuesday night, county commissioners approved an Elections Board that will receive training and preside over all elections. Legally, the board will not take affect until January 2010; however, an implementation team will use the remainder of 2009 to prepare for the elections in the following year. Members of the implementation team will consist of the same members found on the Elections Board. Election Board members are current members of the Board of Registrars, plus three additional seats have been added.

According to County Manager Doug Eaves, “Of the current board, Troy Reddick, who is the current chairman, and Donnie Mann, will continue on the new board. Mr. Kumbie, who is on the Board of Registrars at this point, will continue to serve on the committee, but he will come off in January, he won’t continue to serve after January. Ms. Paula Jones from Lyons, Ms. Kathy Milligan from Lyons, and Mr. Hoyt Pittman will be the three new members of the board."

In other news from the meeting, commissioners approved a noise ordinance, voted to continue the EMS contract agreement with Montgomery County, and denied a request from the District Attorney for a five percent increase to his office.
