Light Turnout for County Trash Meeting
Wednesday, 03 June 2009

June 3--  Only a half-dozen people turned up to learn about Toombs County plans for its next trash and recycling convenience center.

County manager Doug Eaves and Commissioner Steve Brown hosted the meeting Tuesday night at the Santa Claus City Hall to discuss the center planned for the intersection of Aimwell Road Extension and Gibson Road.

Those attending saw pictures of the county's first center near Cedar Crossing and Brown believes the meeting help change some perceptions.  "There were a couple of folks there who were clearly opposed.  They were very appreciative and told me so at the end of the meeting that we did make some effort and hold these meetings prior to moving dirt," he said.

Brown hopes the new convenience center will be up and running in the next 90 days, and that three more will be constructed before the end of the year.  They are replacing unsightly dumpster sites which have been an eyesore in the county for years.
