Monday, 18 May 2009

May 18-- Brewton-Parker College is one of seven colleges and universities in the nation recognized by the North American Mission Board  for its “strong commitment and record” of deploying student missionaries during 2008.

Rev. Glenn Wallace, Baptist Collegiate Ministries (BCM) campus advisor and campus minister, accepted the Courts Redford Award for Excellence in Student Missionary Deployment at the recent LifeWay-sponsored National Collegiate Ministers Summit in Nashville.

Rev. Wallace reports the college sent or supported one out of 10 on-campus residents on missions last year.

“Missions is a large part of Baptist Collegiate Ministries at BPC,” said Rev. Wallace. “God has continued to bring students who have a desire to serve and a willingness to go anywhere to our campus each year. It is a blessing to be a part of what He is doing in the heart of our students through missions.”

This is the second year the college has been honored with this award, he adds.

Other recipients are Liberty University, Lynchburg, Va.; Augusta State University, Augusta, Ga.; North Greenville University, Tigerville, S.C.; the University of Georgia, Athens, Ga.; Hannibal-LaGrange College, Hannibal, Mo.; William Carey University, Hattiesburg, Miss.; and one church, CrossPoint Church, Clemson, S.C.

BPC’s BCM participated in three mission trips last year, sending students to Nicaragua, New Orleans and New York City.
