Tuna Supplier Looking at Toombs
Monday, 11 May 2009

May 11--  Possible spinoff from the location of Chicken of the Sea's tuna plant in Toombs County could be from one of the company's suppliers.

Bill Mitchell of the Toombs County Development Authority told the Lyons City Council last week a Pennsylvania can manufacturer is considering locating  jobs in Toombs County to support the new tuna plant.  He estimates 40 jobs if the project comes to pass.

In other Lyons council news, the city is submitting an application for $500,000 in federal funds to increase the capacity of the city's sewage treatment plant in the northern part of town.

The council is also considering a local law prohibiting loud music, and Mayor John Moore says the city is still looking for a director of its Better Hometown Program.
