New Dome Placed on Courthouse
Tuesday, 05 May 2009

May 5-- Today the small dome of the Montgomery County Courthouse was once again placed atop the large courthouse dome.

ImageThe small dome has been completely recovered with copper sheeting. This is the same copper sheeting that will be used to cover the entire large dome.

ImageThe small dome replacement operation went smoothly and took about two and a half hours, with periods of light rain. The construction crew and crane operator worked continuously without stopping. The small dome is once again securely bolted in position atop the courthouse. Steel girders in the large dome itself support the entire structure.

Once again the same 70 ton 135 foot crane from Waycross that lifted the small dome down was used to put it back up.
