Vidalia Onion Festival Recipe Winners

April 23--  The Vidalia Community Center was filled with delicious Vidalia Onion dishes in Thursday night's annual Onion Recipe Competition hosted by the Vidalia Onion Committee. 

Judges taste-tested all the dishes and Onion Committee Executive Director Wendy Brannen announced the winners in main dish, side dish and appetizer categories plus the winner among entries submitted by young people.

The winning main dish is Vidalia Onion Ravioli with Vodka Cream Sauce prepared by Richard Williams (right). Second place is the Vidalia Seafood Medley by Ron O'Neal (middle) and third goes to Kathy Roseland (left) for Vidalia Onion Quiche.

The appetizer dish winner is Cindy Hudson (left) for Stuffed Vidalia Onion Petals, Nicholas Holmes won second for Vidalia Onion Salad and Sabrina Toole took third for Vidalia Yummy Dip.

The Blue Ribbon for side dishes goes to Sabrina Toole for her Vidalia Sweetest Onionlicious Pie.  Laura Nettles' (second from right) Vidalia Mushroom Pie won second place and Nelson Hodges took third for his Vidalia Onion Casserole.  Onion Committee Exec Wendy Brannen is with the winners (far right).

In the youth category, three 4-H members from Toombs County High School took top honors.  Megan Hadley (center) took first for her Vidalia Onion Cheese Dip, Kay-la Jackson (left) won second for a Vidalia Onion Kickin-Chicken Pizza and McKinsey McCoy's Mexican Taco Dip came in third.

The winning recipes will be posted soon on the Onion Committee's website, www.vidaliaonion.org.
