Church Groundbreaking in Mount Vernon
Friday, 17 April 2009

April 17--  After 17 years of praying and planning, the Guiding Light Church of God in Christ in Mount Vernon broke ground Friday for its new Worship Center. The 5,546 square foot sanctuary is being built on Washington Street on land to the rear of the church's old building.

Project manager Eric Burch of J&P and Sons Construction says the new building should be ready for use by October.  He estimates it will provide jobs for at least 75 people during the course of construction.

The church pastor, Rev. Theotis Summerset, says future plans call for adding an education wing and dining facilities.  The church serves as a base for a community feeding program and Rev. Summersett says the church wants to have a positive impact in the community.
