BPC Voice Competition Winners

April 17-- The Division of Music at Brewton-Parker College is very pleased to announce the winners of the seventh annual Virginia Chapman Voice Competition, which took place April 4 on the Mount Vernon campus, said Dr. Kandie Smith, professor of voice at BPC.

            First Place, with a cash award of $1,000, was taken by Mandy Madson. Madson is a junior at BPC, majoring in Music Education. Originally from Jacksonville, Fla., Madson came to Brewton-Parker College as winner of First Prize in the T.N. Retif Voice Scholarship Competition.

            Kara Norris, a freshman also majoring in Music Education, won the Second Prize accompanied by a $600 award. Norris is a native of Blackshear, Ga.

     The Third Prize of $400 was won by Mystie Bennett. Hailing from Warner Robins, Ga., Bennett is a freshman at BPC majoring in Music Education. Both Norris and Bennett are winners of Second Place in the T.N. Retif Voice Scholarship Competition, Bennett in 2008 and Norris in 2009.

            The Virginia Chapman Voice Competition is funded through the generosity of George Chapman of Vidalia, Ga., in recognition of his late wife’s passion for and belief in the power of music to influence lives for the positive.
