"Project Spirit" Still on Track
Tuesday, 07 April 2009

April 7--  A food processing plant which could ultimately bring more than 300 jobs to Toombs County remains on track.

Toombs County Development Authority Director Bill Mitchell told the Lyons city council Tuesday night he thinks "we'll have a real project very soon, and it's major in these economic times."

The company is negotiating a lease for a building owned by Symington Industries in the Toombs Industrial Park on U.S. One north of Lyons.  Mitchell is encouraged because the company already has a contractor looking at building a 10,000 square foot freezer next to the Symington building.

If the deal goes through, Mitchell says an announcement would be made in May.

In other news from Lyons city council, the city is applying for a half-million dollars in federal economic stimulus funds.  Mayor John Moore says there are a number of options on spending the money including increased capacity of the city sewage system.

Mayor Moore also announced phone numbers citizens should use to contact the city's animal control people.  Call 526-0478 or 380-0035 to report strays or to inquire about missing pets.
