Monday, 30 March 2009

March 30-- Meadows Regional Medical Center was named one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals® for 2008 by Evanston, Ill.—based Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospitals® (formerly Solucient), the nation’s leading source of healthcare information.  This year’s announcement marks the third time Meadows has received this honor in the last four years and is the only hospital in Georgia being honored this year.

Dr. Frank Gibase, Chief of Staff Elect; Alan Kent, President & CEO; and Dr. Ben Neely, Chief of Staff at Meadows Regional Medical Center.

“This is truly an honor for us to be recognized as one of the 100 Top Hospitals in the nation,” said Alan Kent, President/CEO.  “Our staff works hard each and every day to  provide quality care to all of our patients and are good stewards of the hospital’s resources,” said Kent. “This clearly demonstrates that our quality performance is what sets us apart from the other hospitals in our region.”

The Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospitals®: National Benchmarks study is based on the 100 Top Hospitals National Balanced Scorecard that evaluates performance in nine areas: mortality, medical complications, patient safety, average length of stay, expenses, profitability, cash-to-debt ratio, patient satisfaction, and adherence to clinical standards of care. The study has been conducted annually since 1993.

"The 100 Top Hospitals winners raised the bar again this year, delivering a higher level of reliable care  and greater value for their communities and payers," said Jean Chenoweth, senior vice president for performance improvement and 100 Top Hospitals programs at Thomson Reuters.

To conduct the 100 Top Hospitals study, Thomson Reuters researchers evaluated 3,000 short-term, acute care, non-federal hospitals. They used public information - Medicare cost reports, Medicare Provider Analysis and Review (MedPAR) data, and core measures and patient satisfaction data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Hospital Compare data set.

Meadows Regional Medical Center is a 122-bed JCAHO accredited facility providing acute and long-term care.  Meadows was previously recognized as a Top 100 Hospital in 2005 and 2006. In 2002, Meadows was honored by the Georgia Alliance of Community Hospitals as the Hospital of the Year.
