The Montgomery County “Straight Shots” 4-H BB team competed at the Southeast District area BB Match and were right on target, finishing in 4th out of 17 teams and just 3 points away from placing in the top three. The team is coached by volunteer Coaches Henry Price and Anthony Powell.

The Straight Shots BB team has been practicing 4 times a week since October for the competition. Each 4-H’er had to demonstrate shooting proficiency in four shooting positions including prone, standing, sitting, and kneeling.  They also tested their BB knowledge on a written exam.

To qualify for the State contest to be held May 1-3 at Rock Eagle 4-H Center, teams of five - seven 4-H’ers had to shoot a score of 1500 or better. The high five shooters on a team constituted the team score. Individuals had to shoot a cumulative score of 300 or better to advance to the state contest.  Montgomery County hit the bull’s eye with all team members qualifying for the state match!

The BB Program is a part of the Georgia 4-H Shooting Awareness, Fun and Education Program (S.A.F.E.).  The Georgia 4-H Foundation serves as the donor for the State BB competition

4-H is the youth program of the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.  For more information about this program or other 4-H offerings, contact Shane Curry or Julie Davis at the UGA Cooperative Extension office at 912-583-2240.
