by Michelle Wolf
The tension was palpable as the Tattnall County Board of Education held a special called meeting at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, March 17, at the Board office in Reidsville.
After a closed session, Superintendent Jim Turbeville placed himself on administrative leave. Assistant Superintendent Gina Williams will assume his duties while Turbeville is on administrative leave.
At the start of the meeting, Board member Jeff Odom made a motion for the Board to meet in closed session to discuss personnel matters.  The motion was seconded by Dale Kicklighter, and the Board members moved to a private meeting room.
Those attending the closed session were Board of Education Chairman Richard Bland; Board members Jeff Odom, Dale Kicklighter, Marilyn Lanier, Brandon Johnson, and Mary Ruth Ray; and Board Attorney Danny Dubberly.
Superintendent Turbeville, Attorney Hugh McCullough, and Attorney Brad Wilson of Adams, Hemingway, & Wilson, LLP, in Macon did not attend the closed session.
After meeting in closed session for two hours, the Board members returned and approved a motion to come back into open session. Immediately afterwards, the Board unanimously approved a motion to adjourn the meeting. No other action was taken.
