Education Sales Tax Pases
Tuesday, 17 March 2009

March 17-- Less than five percent of the registered voters in Toombs County went to the polls Tuesday and easily passed a one percent sales tax for the school systems in Vidalia and Toombs County.

Seventy-eight percent of the 645 who voted were in favor of continuing the sales tax.

School officials estimate it will raise $38-million dollars in the next five years with Toombs County schools getting nearly $20 million and Vidalia receiving the balance.
