Johnny Jones - Lyons Citizen of the Year
Thursday, 12 March 2009

March 12--  A small business owner who works tirelessly for his community is the Lyons Citizen of the Year.  Johnny Jones was honored at the annual dinner Thursday night hosted by the Lyons Merchants Association.

Johnny Jones (R) accepts 2009 Citizen of the Year Award from last years honoree, Michael Grimes.

"It's really amazing.  We have got a great community and I had no idea.  I'm always out fighting for our community, agriculture and the kids and this is really an honor," Jones said.

Jones is a longtime leader of the Toombs County FFA Alumni chapter and is the president-elect of FFA Alumni all over the state.

The president of the FFA at Toombs County High School, Tyler Speer, says Mr. Jones is a good choice.  "He encourages everybody to get involved.  If he doesn't know you right off the bat, he's gonna come tell you to get involved and help out."

Johnny hopes his example will influence young people and says, "We have some great kids in Toombs County and the state and on the national level.  I meet these kids throughout the year and we just have to mold them for the future."
