The National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA) is proud to announce the 2014 NHSCA High School Academic All Americans for the 2013-2014 school year.  This year marks the 21st year in which the NHSCA has honored those who triumph both in and out of the classroom.  This year’s selection totals 128 Academic All Americans.  These student athletes hail from 27 states and an American school in Germany.  This year’s honorees excel in eight different sports.  The total breakdown is as follows:  11 Freshman, 14 Sophomore, 45 Junior, and 58 Senior student athletes.

Daniel Copeland, a graduated member of the Indian wrestling, football, and baseball teams, was one of two seniors in Georgia who earned the honor of being an Academic All-American.  This year Arizona led the way with 29 Academic All Americans.  Connecticut had 17 and Georgia followed with 13.  These student athletes averaged a 3.9 GPA, with 31 All Americans coming in with a 4.0 GPA or better.  “We were very excited and proud of Daniel earning this honor.  He has consistently performed in the classroom as well as in the arena of competition,” stated Coach James Ferry.  He continued, “Daniel is what all student-athletes should strive to achieve; four-time state qualifier and two-time state medalist in wrestling, all region selection in football, dependable baseball player, straight A student, a fantastic encourager, and a reliable member to his friends and family.”

“This year’s Academic All Americans are the epitome of what a student-athlete should be.  Not only do they excel on the playing field, wrestling mat, court, or track, but they also excel in the classroom.  These student athletes are leaders in and out of the classroom and are the future leaders of tomorrow.  We are very proud to deem them as Academic All Americans for 2014”, stated Bobby Ferraro, Executive Director of the NHSCA.

All honored Academic All Americans will be recognized in the Nationals High School Sports Hall of Fame Museum, which is currently in the planning stage.
