Polke Arrested in Fatal Shooting

ImageImage    (L - R, Polke, Lee) July 19--  On Friday, July 18th, 2014 the Tattnall County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Reidsville Police Department, and United States Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Barbara Ann Polke on murder charges.

The arrest stemmed from the investigation into the death of Ashley Denielle Sharpe. Polke had reported that Sharpe was shot in her vehicle while the two traveled through Lyons on Hwy 280. Leads were developed during the investigation that began to show differently. The Lyons Police Department and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Region 12 Eastman Office took the initial leads and were unable develop evidence to support the claims made by Polke.

The investigation was then turned over to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Region 5, Statesboro office. Based upon all the facts gathered during the investigation warrants were issued for the arrest of Polke for the death of Ashley Sharpe. Polke was also charged with two (2) counts of possession of a firearm by convicted felon, and possession of firearm during the commission of a crime.

On Thursday, July 17th, 2014 the Tattnall County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and United States Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Catherine Sharpe Lee. Lee was interviewed during the death investigation of Ashley Sharpe. Lee was found providing false statements to law enforcement. Lee was charged with four (4) counts of giving false statements.

Sheriff Quinton Rush would like to commend the work of all the law enforcement agencies involved. The investigation was conducted between the Reidsville Police Department, Lyons Police Department, Toombs County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia Bureau of Investigation (Eastman and Statesboro field offices), United States Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, and Tattnall County Sheriff’s Office. 

Sheriff Rush would also like to thank all the good citizens who provided information that helped lead to the arrest of these individuals.
