Lyons Shooting Victim Identified
Saturday, 12 July 2014

July 12--  Authorities have released the names of the women allegedly shot at while driving through Lyons Friday afternoon.

Lyons Police Chief Wesley Walker says 29-year-old Ashley Danielle Sharpe of Reidsville was the passenger in the car driven by 35-year-old Barbara Ann Polke of Reidsville.

Chief Walker says investigators are checking on the driver's story that the shooting happened in Lyons.

"There were two females in a vehicle.  They were supposedly somewhere in Lyons, but we haven't established that.  We're getting information there were guys on the side of the  road and one of them fired two shots into the vehicle striking the passenger in the head.  The driver drove to Reidsville and called 911.  The ambulance came and the passenger was dead when the ambulance arrived.

"The Tattnall County Sherif's Office responded and interviewed the driver of the car and she said it happened in Lyons, but we haven't confirmed that," the Chief reported.

Sharpe's body will undergo an autopsy as part of the investigation.

Chief Walker says GBI agents from both Statesboro and Eastman are assisting Lyons police and Tattnall authorities with the investigation since no one is sure at this point where the crime actually occurred and who has jurisdiction.
